Supply Chain Due Diligence
Compliance requirements for human rights and environmental sourcing policies.
Beyond Carbon: Social Responsibility
Annex X of the regulation mandates strict supply chain due diligence policies, taking effect in August 2025. This aligns battery manufacturing with broader EU directives like the CSDDD and the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG).
Covered Raw Materials
The due diligence requirements specifically target the extraction and processing of:
- Cobalt (Addressing child labor risks in artisanal mining).
- Natural Graphite
- Lithium (Addressing water depletion in salars).
- Nickel
Required Actions
Manufacturers must establish a risk management system, identify adverse impacts in their upstream supply chain, and publish an annual due diligence report. A link to this report must be included in the public section of the Battery Passport.
